Elephas maximus maximus. Every August the herds walk out onto the drying tank bed at Minneriya. It is the largest gathering of wild elephants anywhere, and it happens two hours from a main road.
Roughly a third of these frames came from four animals I have followed since 2019 — the Kumbukkan female, her two surviving daughters, and the big male the trackers call Neluma.
Ten per cent of every print sold funds collaring and camera-trap work with the Wilderness & Wildlife Conservation Trust. Since 2021 that has come to just over $14,000.
